about

Based in Madison WI, they knew the inside and out of every dive bar between Quad Cities IL and Steven’s Point, WI: which outlets had power, which ones were wired out of phase, and whether they would be dressing in the men’s room or the cattle barn out back.

From 1978 to 1984, they ghosted from town to town (in the “Shit Mummy” a vintage UPS step van held together with pounds of wide green duct tape, and “The Pig”, an ancient Chevy 10 van, finished with shag carpeting, bucket seats and a fold-down bench across the back), weekend rock warriors, entertaining crowds of up to 10 people at a time.

Sometimes they paid the bar owners to let them play (especially when a bar tab was involved). They were a farce of nature, powered by foosball, beer and junk food, taking their inspiration from the pop-rock gods of the day, and the hormone-induced fog of post-adolescent angst.

They wrote straight up 80s rock, power-pop, liberally peppered with misogyny and the irreverence of Weird Al. They brushed shoulders with the greats, opening shows for The Producers among others. Some said, they were just way ahead of their time.

But, all good things must come to an end. The pressures of poverty, a stunning lack of public interest in their activities, and of course, a fair amount of irritation with each other, forced them into the eternal prison of day jobs.

Thirty-two years passed. In July, 2016, they reunited for one last time in Minneapolis MN. Members came from miles...it was a glorious reunion, and sparked the question… “Why did we ever stop”?

Deciding it was both their destiny, and responsibility to preserve what was, A.K.A. Spanky reunited in 2017 to record the nine tracks on this album, all of which were played live between 1978 and 1984.

A.K.A. Spanky was:
Kevin (Ayne) Ennis, (Vocals, Guitar, Keys)
Greg (G) Percy (Vocals, Bass Guitar, Keys)
Steve (Bean) Beaupre (Vocals, Guitar)
Jeff (Jet) Anderson, R.I.P. (Traps, Percussion, Necktie)

This collection of songs is dedicated to the fond memory of Jet, talented drummer, funniest guy, dear friend.
